A little bit about me.
I'm passionate about traveling and discovering new places. My husband and I took a one-year sabbatical in 2018, where we explored the world, gaining invaluable experiences and deepening my love for adventure. I thrive on planning trips and conducting thorough travel research, always on the lookout for unique destinations and memorable experiences. For me, traveling is more than just a hobby; it's a way to enrich my understanding of the world and satisfy my curiosity.
So, let me create an amazing itinerary for you! ensuring you experience the same joy and excitement that traveling brings to me!!
Why did we take a Sabattical?
I never thought that things would happen this fast. We used to talk about leaving everything behind to go explore our birth country, Mexico. However, all that talk was all but a dream, an idea that would up pop on our heads every now and then. Every time we had a bad day at work we would go home and start making plans. I would come up with the perfect itinerary, we would work on budgets. At one point we even found ourselves watching youtube videos of people that quit their jobs to travel the world. I think all that planning and daydreaming was our way to get away from our reality, away from the routinary life that we had fallen into.
When Texas got hit by hurricane Harvey in 2017, that is when things started changing. I remember seeing on the news all the damages that it caused, half the city was under water, bridges collapsed, houses destroyed, lives lost. It was painful seeing our hometown in such agony. Even though we were lucky and blessed to be spared the wrath of mother nature, this catastrophic event triggered something. It made us realize that life is too short to not take risks. To live the way that society implied it to be. We became tired of living our dreams through the eyes of others, we were ready to turn our dreams into a reality.
We placed the house for sale at the end of 2017 and planned for it to sell in three or four months, but a month later we were at the title company turning in our keys and garage controls. We were not mentally prepared for our house to sell so fast, but we took it as a sign that our plans were meant to be. It was really sad seeing our first house so empty, all that remains are the memories that we made in that house; housewarming, birthday parties, board game nights with our best friends, and the occasional drunken nights caused by vegas bombs. Now we are weeks away from starting our adventure, and it feels so unreal. We started planning a tour of Mexico only, but we ended up doing a world tour.
When we told people our plans, we usually received the same reaction. That we were brave for doing it, and that we must be rich. Well first, were are not brave, we were actually really scared. We were afraid to leave our comfort zone. We were afraid of not having a home anymore and that we stopped getting a paycheck every two weeks. We were afraid of venturing into unknown places; we didnt know the language, the culture, the people.
We had a plethora of emotions running through our heads. However, we were also excited to be able to go into the trip of a lifetime. We were eager to learn about the different cultures, gastronomy, and traditions of other countries. Thrilled to see the wonders that our world has to offer. We understood that there were going to be blocks in the road and that not everything was going to be unicorns and rainbows, but this experience helped us grow as a couple and as individuals. Second, we are not rich, we wish we were as it would've made things easier. The only reason we were able to finance our trip was from the equity we had on our house. I am also really lucky that my husband is really good at getting miles deals in our credit cards! haha
Each person makes their own destiny, it is just a matter of choosing if you want to live it like everyone else or if you want to risk it all, break the rules, and follow your dreams.
