Australia

Sydney

Australia is a land of stunning contrasts and vibrant culture, offering an incredible array of experiences for travelers. Over two weeks, I embarked on a journey through some of the country's most iconic destinations, immersing myself in the natural beauty and unique wildlife that make Australia so special. Here's a recap of my amazing adventure.

My trip began in Sydney, a city known for its stunning harbor and architectural marvels. The highlight was undoubtedly visiting the Sydney Opera House and the Sydney Harbour Bridge. The Opera House, with its sail-like design, is even more breathtaking in person, and I had the chance to explore its interior on a guided tour. Walking across the Harbour Bridge offered panoramic views of the city skyline and the bustling harbor below.

If you have days to spare, don't forget to do a half a day trip to Bondi beach and swim in the pools! we went during winter and didn't think the weather was going to be good for plunging in the water, so I did not bring my bathing suit with me. However, to my surprise there were plenty of people in the pool and even surfing! you can also walk around the cost to get some amazing views!

Blue Mountains: Nature's Wonderland

From Sydney, we a took a 2.5hr train to the Blue Mountains, a world-heritage listed area known for its dramatic scenery. The train journey itself was picturesque, winding through lush landscapes and quaint towns. In the Blue Mountains, I marveled at the Three Sisters rock formation and took a thrilling cable car ride across the valley. The serene beauty of the eucalyptus forests and the crisp mountain air made this a refreshing escape from the city. You can hike multiple trails or if you want a more family friendly adventure then I recommend going to Scenic World.

Cairns

After Sydney, I flew to Cairns for three days of adventure. Cairns is the gateway to two of Australia’s most famous natural attractions: the Daintree Rainforest and the Great Barrier Reef.

Daintree Rainforest: The tour of the Daintree Rainforest was like stepping into another world, as it is the oldest rainforest in the world! beating the amazons by about 10million years! it is also home to hundered of animals and plants not found anywhere else. Our guide led us through dense, ancient forests, explaining the rich biodiversity and the importance of this ecosystem. We spotted exotic birds, ancient ferns, and even a few crocodiles basking on the riverbanks of the Daintree river. The Cape Tripulation, with its crystal-clear waters and lush greenery, was a highlight of this tour as this is where the rainforest meets the barrier reef! Even thought it was tempting to go swimming, it is not recommended as there are salt water crocodiles.

That is why, Cairns has a public pool/lagoon, so that people can relax in a man made lagoon, although crocodiles have found their way into it in the past.

Great Barrier Reef: Snorkeling at the Great Barrier Reef was an experience beyond words, this has also been in my bucket list for ever! The vibrant coral reefs, teeming with colorful fish, were a sight to behold. I even saw a sea turtle gliding gracefully through the water. The reef’s beauty and fragility were evident, and it was heartening to see the efforts being made to protect this natural wonder. The tour we took also included a 10min helicopter ride, seeing the reef from the skies was unbelievable!

Brisbane

My final stop was Brisbane, where I spent a few days exploring the city's attractions and visiting the famous Australia Zoo.

Brisbane itself is a vibrant city with a relaxed vibe. I strolled along the South Bank Parklands, visited the Queensland Art Gallery, and enjoyed the bustling markets. The city's blend of modernity and nature, with its riverside walks and green spaces, provided a perfect end to my Australian adventure.

Australia Zoo: Founded by the late Steve Irwin, the Australia Zoo was a highlight of my trip. The zoo's emphasis on conservation and education was impressive, and I enjoyed watching the wildlife shows, especially the crocodile feeding. The zoo's vast enclosures and the variety of animals, from tigers to koalas, made it a fantastic day out.

Koala Sanctuary: Next, I visited a koala sanctuary where I had the chance to get up close and personal with these adorable marsupials. Learning about their habitat and conservation efforts was enlightening, and I even got to cuddle a koala, an unforgettable experience. The sanctuary also housed other native animals, including kangaroos and wombats, making it a fantastic place to appreciate Australia's unique fauna.

Final Thoughts

Two weeks in Australia was a whirlwind of experiences, from the iconic sights of Sydney to the natural wonders of Cairns and the wildlife encounters in Brisbane. Each destination offered something unique, and the warmth and hospitality of the locals made the trip even more special. Australia’s diverse landscapes and rich biodiversity make it a must-visit destination for any traveler. If you ever get the chance, embark on your own Aussie adventure – it’s an experience you'll never forget.
