Cairo, Egypt

Welcome to Cairo, where the ancient and modern collide in a vibrant tapestry of culture and history. Begin your journey by diving straight into the city's most iconic sites.

Day 1

Start your day at the Giza Plateau, home to the awe-inspiring Great Pyramids. Marvel at the sheer size and grandeur of the Pyramid of Khufu, the largest of the three pyramids, and explore the adjacent Pyramid of Khafre and Pyramid of Menkaure. Don't miss the enigmatic Sphinx, guarding the pyramids with its mystical presence. We actually took a private early morning tour that included a camel ride throught the Giza Necropolis, this was a really amazing thing to do because we were able to go in even before the complex opened and so we had the entire place for ourselves! After visiting the pyramids, our tour guide took us to his place for tea and to meet his family.

After lunch, visit the Egyptian Museum, a treasure trove of ancient artifacts spanning thousands of years of Egyptian history. Highlights include the King Tutankhamun Gallery, showcasing the boy king's iconic golden mask and other precious artifacts. When we visited the new museum was still under construction, but I think now its officially open to the public.

Wind down with a leisurely stroll through the vibrant Khan El Khalili Bazaar, Cairo's oldest and most famous market. Immerse yourself in its bustling atmosphere, shop for souvenirs, and savor authentic Egyptian street food at local eateries.

Day 2

Start your day early with a visit to the Islamic Cairo district. Explore the Muizz Street, a medieval thoroughfare lined with historic mosques, madrasas (Islamic schools), and beautifully preserved architecture.

Midday: Visit the Saladin Citadel, a UNESCO World Heritage site that offers panoramic views of Cairo. Explore the impressive Muhammad Ali Mosque, also known as the Alabaster Mosque, located within the Citadel complex.

Take a serene boat ride along the Nile River, where you can relax and enjoy breathtaking views of Cairo's skyline and iconic landmarks from the water.

Attend a traditional Egyptian folkloric show or light and sound show at the Pyramids for a captivating end to your day, with the ancient monuments illuminated against the night sky.

Day 3

Take a day trip to Memphis and Saqqara, ancient Egyptian cities brimming with archaeological wonders. Explore the Step Pyramid of Djoser in Saqqara, the oldest stone pyramid in Egypt, and visit the open-air museum of Memphis, showcasing colossal statues and artifacts.

Return to Cairo and visit the Coptic Cairo district, home to some of Egypt's oldest churches, including the Hanging Church and the Coptic Museum.

Enjoy a farewell dinner at a rooftop restaurant overlooking the Nile or indulge in a traditional Egyptian meal at a local restaurant, reflecting on your memorable adventures in Cairo.
